Clause 3, Article 27 of the 2025 Law on Teachers stipulates:
Retirement at a higher age for teachers in public educational institutions
1. Subjects who can enjoy retirement at an older age include teachers with the title of professor, associate professor or have a doctorate degree and teachers working in specialized fields and sectors.
2. The retirement regime at an older age is implemented when the educational institution has a need; teachers are healthy enough, volunteer and meet the standards and conditions of the educational institution.
3. The retirement period at an older age is regulated as follows:
a) Not more than 5 years old for teachers with a doctorate degree;
b) Not more than 7 years old for teachers with the title of associate professor;
c) Not more than 10 years old for teachers with the title of professor.
4. During the implementation of the retirement regime at an older age as prescribed in Clause 3 of this Article, teachers do not hold management positions.
5. The Government stipulates in detail the process and procedures for retirement at a higher age; retirement at a higher age for teachers in specialized fields and sectors.
Thus, teachers in public educational institutions who are Associate professors are allowed to retire at a maximum age of no more than 7 years.
According to the provisions of the Labor Code 2019, the retirement age of employees in normal working conditions is adjusted according to the roadmap until reaching 62 years old for male employees in 2028 and 60 years old for female employees in 2035.
From 2021, the retirement age of employees in normal working conditions will be 60 years and 3 months for male employees and 55 years and 4 months for female employees; after that, it will increase by 3 months each year for male employees and 4 months for female employees.
