Talking to Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment - said that our country currently has more than 16 million elderly people - accounting for about 16% of the population. Among these, many people have done specific jobs, experts in many fields, even leaders of state agencies... If we do not use them, we will almost not be able to take advantage of this valuable resource. Especially for those who used to be workers with high technical and professional qualifications in the fields of education, healthcare, etc.
According to Mr. Trung, in order for the elderly to be able to participate in the labor market, the relevant agencies must specifically assess the aspirations, abilities, and needs of the elderly to have a plan to use the elderly in the right direction they want: "The elderly must be the subject for us to aim for activities for them, revolving around them. For the elderly who are able to work and they want to continue working, want to contribute to society, we must have solutions to arrange jobs for them".

Mr. Trung said that the employment program for the elderly is quite diverse, in which it is necessary to promote consulting, training, fostering as well as supporting the elderly so that they can continue to do the jobs they usually do, switch to new fields, even start a business.
"What the elderly need, give them that. This is also a very important measure to fight loneliness and reduce stress in the elderly. Taking advantage of the aging human resources, we can also meet the needs of the labor market lacking in human resources, while also creating a stable branch of social security, Mr. Trung emphasized.
The former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment affirmed that there are currently many businesses and organizations that want to receive and recruit elderly people to work. Thus, as long as there is a policy to support the elderly, including support on employment issues, the supply and demand in the use and recruitment of elderly workers will operate smoothly.
Mr. Le Quang Trung also reiterated General Secretary To Lam's suggestion on the model of nursing homes for the elderly and affirmed that this is a very special and humane care for the elderly.
To implement the model of nursing home care, according to Mr. Trung, relevant authorities must decentralize to survey the wishes of the elderly. Clarify which sports this group of subjects wants to participate in, which community clubs... Activities for the elderly must also be studied thoroughly to be attractive enough, enter the lives of the elderly, and bring practical value.
To do this, I think it is necessary to have programs, curriculum or procedures to organize each activity group suitable for the elderly. At this time, it is possible to take advantage of the material resources in localities after the merger, such as administrative agency headquarters. Efforts to fight loneliness for the elderly also need a systematic program, not boring, organized as topics suitable for the psychology of the elderly. Through physical and intellectual activities from groups, clubs... will support the elderly both mentally and physically. I pay special attention to programs on culture, arts, sports, entertainment..., Mr. Trung shared.
