Amazon redesigns Alexa application, expands AI ecosystem

Alexa is upgraded by Amazon to understand context, remember users and perform tasks automatically, in the context of the increasingly hot AI assistant race.

Amazon has just officially introduced the web version of Alexa+ (the upgraded version of traditional Alexa), which is a voice assistant upgraded with artificial intelligence, marking an important expansion in the strategy to bring AI to users more flexibly, no longer completely dependent on specialized hardware devices.

The new website named Alexa.com was announced by Amazon at CES 2026, taking place from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas (USA).

Alexa+ is an AI-upgraded version of the Alexa digital assistant, first launched in 2025, designed to handle more complex queries, create content, plan travel, manage schedules and perform many other automated tasks.

According to Amazon, Alexa+ does not just stop at providing information. Alexa+ is built for action. This assistant can support managing to-do lists, updating family schedules, controlling smart homes, booking services and many other tasks.

Alexa+ understands context and remembers users

Thanks to the integration of advanced artificial intelligence models, Alexa+ has the ability to better understand context, remember previous conversations as well as user personal preferences. This helps feedback become more coherent and consistent over time.

However, at the present stage, the web version of Alexa+ is only available for users of the Early Access program, requiring Amazon account login to use.

In addition to the web platform, Alexa+ has also been deployed on Echo devices. Amazon said that it has sold more than 600 million devices supporting Alexa worldwide, showing the scale of the ecosystem that this assistant is operating.

Along with that, Amazon also confirmed that it is redesigning the Alexa mobile application to bring a more user-friendly experience.

The launch of the web version is explained as to meet the needs of users who want to access Alexa+ without owning Amazon's smart home device.

The AI assistant race is heating up

Alexa+ appears in the context of large technology corporations accelerating investment in a new generation of voice assistants, built on the platform of a large language model (LLM). These assistants are expected to be able to have more natural conversations, deeply understand context and automatically perform actions instead of users.

Previously, Google introduced Gemini for Home and Gemini Live, allowing live, more flexible chat with AI. Apple is also said to be launching an AI-upgraded Siri version this year, after a period of delay.

According to Mr. Daniel Rausch, Vice President in charge of Alexa and Echo at Amazon, quoted by TechCrunch, "76% of customers using Alexa+ are things that other AIs cannot do.

He said that users can send photos of family recipes to Alexa, request to read instructions in voice, replace available ingredients and complete the dish right in the kitchen.

What does Alexa+ do on the web?

The web version of Alexa+ is designed with a navigation bar next to it, allowing quick access to common features such as shopping lists, appointments or continuing unfinished tasks. Users can grant access to emails, calendars and personal documents so that Alexa+ automatically extracts information, adds appointments, reminds events or supports meal planning.

In addition, smart home controls are also directly integrated into the same chat interface. Users can check cameras, turn on lights, adjust temperature or unlock doors remotely without complex operations.

Amazon said Alexa+ is being expanded and integrated with many services such as Expedia, Yelp, Square, and familiar applications such as Uber, Suno and Ticketmaster, thereby gradually turning Alexa+ into an AI coordination center in daily digital life.
