Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup behind chatbot Claude, has appointed Irina Ghose, former CEO of Microsoft India, to lead the company's operations in the world's most populous South Asian country.
The move takes place as Anthropic prepares to establish its first office in India, one of the fastest growing technology markets in the world.
Ms. Irina Ghose has worked for more than two decades at Microsoft India, where she took on many important leadership roles before leaving the company in December 2025.
With 24 years of experience in operating and expanding large-scale technology business segments, she is considered a suitable choice to lead Anthropic in the strategic expansion phase in the new market.
In a recent LinkedIn post, Ms. Ghose confirmed her new role at Anthropic and expressed optimism about India's potential.
According to her, this country is entering a stage of deploying technology on a large scale, from software companies, startups to the public sector.
Artificial intelligence adjusted according to local languages will be a factor to replicate the strength for the whole society, from education, healthcare to skills development and human resources," Ms. Irina Ghose emphasized.
Ms. Ghose also said she is very excited to connect with leaders and innovators in India to realize Claude's potential, while opening up new AI application capabilities suitable to local needs.
From Anthropic's side, Mr. Chris Ciauri, International Director of the company, highly appreciated Ms. Ghose's experience in expanding business scale and promoting business transformation.
According to Chris Ciauri, her understanding of the local market will help Anthropic build a suitable approach, while strengthening cooperation with both the public and private sectors in India.
Along with the appointment of senior personnel, Anthropic is also actively expanding its team in India. The company has posted many recruitment positions, including corporate customer management, startup management and partner sales management, showing long-term and serious investment plans in this market.
Anthropic's move reflects a general trend as India is emerging as a key market for global AI giants, including OpenAI.
Currently, India is the second largest market for chatbot Claude, with users mainly focusing on technical applications such as programming.
This country owns more than one billion internet subscribers and over 700 million smartphone users, creating a favorable platform for AI popularization.
The appointment of Ms. Ghose also took place right before the India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from February 15 to 20.
Previously, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei visited India and met with senior leaders, showing the company's determination to expand its influence in the world's most populous market.
