Apple may use liquid metal for foldable iPhone hoses

Apple may use liquid metal for folding iPhone hoses to increase durability and reduce folding of the screen.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to apply liquid metal to the hding structure of the upcoming foldable iPhone model to improve durability and reduce the folding situation commonly seen on foldable screens.

This will be the material Apple chose as the main ingredient to solve inherent problems with foldable devices. This new design is expected to increase the flatness of the screen when opened and significantly reduce folding.

Apple has previously used liquid metal for small components such as SIM cards. However, if this plan comes true, the foldable iPhone will be the first device of the company to apply liquid metal to an important mechanical part.

According to previous reports, Apple's foldable iPhone model will have a 7.8-inch home screen when opened and a 5.5-inch secondary screen. The device will follow a book-like design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold, instead of a clamshell.

Information from Kuo also said that the foldable iPhone can be equipped with two rear cameras, a front camera, and an Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated in the source button. The machine is only 4.5mm thin when opened and from 9mm to 9.5mm when folded.

Mass production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, opening the possibility that Apple will launch its first foldable iPhone model in late 2026 or early 2027.
