According to sources from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is developing the first smart glasses model and may launch the product in 2027, even possibly introducing it early at the end of this year.
Apple is said to be testing 4 design styles including: large rectangular frames, thin rectangular frames, large oval or round frames and small oval or round frames. The company is also considering many color options such as black, blue and light brown.
Unlike the previous orientation towards mixed-use devices, the new smart glasses product is said to have a simpler design. This is considered a strategic adjustment step after the Vision Pro device did not meet market expectations.
According to revelations, Apple's smart glasses will not integrate display screens. Instead, the device focuses on basic features such as taking photos, recording videos, listening to music, receiving calls and interacting with the Siri virtual assistant.
This approach is said to be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta product, which focuses on simple experience and convenience instead of complex display technology.
This move shows that Apple is looking for a more realistic direction in the wearable device race, as the market is still not ready for complex augmented reality products.
