Apple has introduced the first 5G modem developed by the company called C1 on the iPhone 16e model this year. However, the company has not planned to bring this modem to higher-end iPhone models until at least next year, the report says.
According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is currently developing a new version of this modem for the iPhone 18 Pro series. In a report to investors, Mr. Pu predicted that Apple will integrate the C2 chip into the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max by 2026.
This assessment coincides with information from Bloomberg, saying that the C2 will appear on high-end iPhone models next year.
Previously, Apple's C1 chip combined 4nm base band technology with 7nm trans player technology, providing higher performance and consuming less energy than Qualcomm modems currently used on the iPhone.
According to Mr. Pu, Apple is considering including the C1 in the iPhone 17 Air model - an ultra-thin iPhone version expected to launch later this year. However, the company may change the decision at the last minute.
Modem chip is a specialized microchip package integrated into mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, smartwatch to connect to the mobile network. It is responsible for processing wireless signals, helping devices send and receive data via the service provider's network.
