Google Gemini, an artificial intelligence tool deeply integrated into Android devices, is controversial as it is discovered to collect more personal data of users than any other competitor.
According to a research by Surfshark VPN cited by TechRadar, Gemini collects 22 types of data out of a total of 35 tested types. This is the highest number among the popular AI chatbot today.
The closest competitor, AI Poe, collects only 15 types of data, 46% less than Gemini. Meanwhile, Microsoft Copilot recorded 13 types, ChatGPT and Perplexity collected 10, while Grok only collected 7 different types of data.

Data collection is not just about quantity but also related to how this data is processed. Some chatbots not only store information but also share it with third parties.
Surfshark's research shows that Copilot, Poe and Jasper often share user data, including contact information, location and search history, for the purpose of serving personalized advertising.
For Google, being criticized for collecting data is not new. This company has long been famous for collecting personal information to improve features and cross- integrate services.
However, in reality, a lot of this data is used to serve targeted advertising. Google has been accused of tracking users even when they use anonymous mode, raising concerns about privacy.
Although Google has always affirmed its commitment to protecting user data, the huge amount of information it holds also means an increasing risk of leakage. As AI is increasingly present in many aspects of life, the issue of privacy and data security continues to be a hot issue.
