In recent years, Vietnam has been strongly promoting the digital transformation process, with the goal of developing a modern and sustainable digital infrastructure and forming an Make in Vietnam product ecosystem. Mastering core technology - from artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) to edge computing and semiconductors is considered a condition to improve national competitiveness in the digital economic era.
According to the development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2035, VNPT focuses on 3 pillars: developing modern and safe digital infrastructure; building a Make in Vietnam digital product and service ecosystem to serve digital government, digital economy and digital society; mastering core technology developed by Vietnamese people.
In particular, VQEC is positioned as a regional research - innovation center, connecting businesses, research institutes, universities and technology startups. VQEC will focus on developing smart electronic devices, network devices and AI computer devices, contributing to the implementation of Vietnam's vision of mastering core technology, reaching the global value chain.
At the VQEC launching ceremony, VNPT General Director Huynh Quang Liem said that the VQEC Center has a special significance in opening up new space for the development of 5G/6G digital infrastructure, cloud, data center, etc. From there, forming products to serve the Vietnamese make-in ecosystem. "This is also a national innovation core, connecting businesses - schools - research institutes - technology startups in the VQEC ecosystem," Mr. Liem emphasized.
The establishment of VNPT - Qualcomm Excellence Center (VQEC) marks a strategic turning point in VNPT's journey to become a pioneering technology group (Techco) of Vietnam.
The center will be a gathering place for Vietnamese intellectuals and global knowledge, where engineers from VNPT and Qualcomm jointly create smart electronics, networking equipment and AI computers. Thereby, contributing to affirming the ability to master core technology and bring Make in Vietnam products to international standards, VNPT General Director shared.
As the main technology unit of VNPT Group in the field of industrial technology, VNPT Technology is responsible for the construction and operation of the VQEC Center, aiming to become an Authorized Design Center of Qualcomm in Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Akash Palkhiwala - Director of Finance and Global Operations of Qualcomm Group said that at VNPT - Qualcomm Excellence Center, cooperation will be strengthened, development and commercialization of advanced products and solutions will be enhanced, contributing to making Vietnam a regional technology hub.
"VNPT currently owns high-quality human resources, a team of engineers with a solid technical foundation, this is a factor that Qualcomm is particularly interested in. We consider this an opportunity to not only exploit and promote Vietnam's human resources, but also bring advanced technologies for large-scale implementation.
In the field of personal devices and computers, we focus on integrating artificial intelligence to improve performance and user experience. Personal AI devices such as wearable devices are becoming an inevitable trend. Qualcomm has now developed an AI Box product - a in-box data center solution, and is cooperating with VNPT to deploy this solution right in Vietnam, said Mr. Akash Palkhiwala.
Previously, in August 2025, VNPT and Qualcomm signed a strategic cooperation agreement towards the establishment of the VNPT - Qualcomm Excellence Center (VQEC). This is the first center in Vietnam to be able to access and develop global core technology, playing an important role in enhancing Vietnam's position in the international digital technology value chain.
