According to TechCrunch, the launch of this new research marks Google's latest effort to turn Gemini into a learning assistant that students will trust, when competing with OpenAI and educational startups such as Knowt and Gauth.
On the Search tool, students can now create custom tools and simulations to help them understand complex topics. For example, if students are learning about pH, they can search for "pH scales" and receive interactive visual images in the AI Overview to help them easily understand more basic knowledge.
To learn more deeply, they can ask the next question about more specific issues, such as showing the pH of citrus fruits, and the AI Mode in Search will create an interactive experience specifically designed for that question.
Now, users can receive custom practice tests directly in Search on any topic, including science, mathematics, humanities, foreign languages, and more. For example, users can enter a request such as "Create a test with the most frequently checked vocabulary to help me prepare for the SAT exam" and Search will then create an interactive test.
In the coming weeks, Lens in Search will deploy a new interactive learning experience to help students solve problems. Students can tap the camera icon "Lens" in the Google application, then upload photos of what they are doing for artificial intelligence (AI) to explain the concept, identify potential errors and provide guidance if they encounter difficulties.
In addition, students can now request the Search function to create learning materials based on uploaded files, including PDF, .doc format documents, slides... For example, they can upload handwritten notes and lecture slides to get a page summarizing the main concepts.
With Gemini, Google is launching a feature that allows students to launch multi-step research reports in Gemini Live and then discuss findings online.
Users can ask Gemini to study a topic, then close the conversation or do other things while it operates in the background. They will receive notifications when the report is completed and then can discuss the findings or ask the next question by voice.
This technology giant also announced that Gemini can now create functional 3D simulations to help users better understand topics, because feedback will now include tables, grids and simulations created specifically for the question.
Google is also launching a specialized learning space in Gemini, turning Gemini into an AI classmate instead of a regular chatbot. Here, users can start creating study notebooks, creating flashcards, doing practical tests...
