According to sources from the technology site The Information, the parent company of the TikTok short video platform, ByteDance, has postponed its global release plan for the Seedance 2.0 artificial intelligence video creation model, after copyright disputes arose with major Hollywood film studios and streaming platforms.
The report said that this decision was made in the context that US entertainment companies are concerned that content created by the AI model may illegally use characters and intellectual property.
ByteDance once announced that it would take measures to prevent the illegal use of intellectual property on the artificial intelligence video creation tool Seedance 2.0.
This move was made after several US film studios, including The Walt Disney Company, warned that they could take legal action.
Disney sent a letter requesting an end to the violation to ByteDance last month. The film studio accused the Chinese technology company of using Disney-owned characters to train and operate the Seedance 2.0 model without permission.
Controversy flared up after many videos created by Seedance 2.0 spread strongly on social networks in China.
Among them are video clips simulating the scene of two Hollywood actors Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt participating in a battle, although these images were created entirely by artificial intelligence.
The incident has raised concerns in the entertainment industry about artificial intelligence models that can exploit images of actors or film characters without permission from copyright owners.
Disputes between technology companies developing artificial intelligence and the entertainment industry are increasing recently, as AI-based image and video creation tools are becoming increasingly popular.
Film studios and streaming platforms are concerned that this technology may use copyrighted data to train models, while technology companies believe that a clearer legal framework is needed to regulate the use of data in artificial intelligence development.
