OpenAI is taking ChatGPT further in its journey to become a comprehensive AI assistant by testing the Agentic Payments feature, allowing users to pay UPI (a popular instant payment system in India) with just one nhac nhatment.
This is the result of a partnership between OpenAI, Razorpay and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), opening a new door for the AI-powered bargaining model.
This feature is currently being tested to a limited extent, allowing ChatGPT to automate the shopping and transaction process.
Users can make an order in English or in text, such as: Help me order Thai vegetable curry ingredients for 4 people from BigBasket. Immediately, ChatGPT will list the ingredients, display the price of each item and require users to confirm payment via Razorpay.
As described, Razorpay plays a bridging role, helping ChatGPT access banks such as Axis Bank, Airtel Payments Bank, UPI Circle and UPI Reserve Pay to complete transactions.
In the early stages, e-commerce platform BigBasket was the first partner that allowed users to order directly in ChatGPT's chat interface, without opening a separate application.
This means users can chat, search for products, and pay for UPI without leaving ChatGPT, creating a seamless "one-stop" experience.
However, in addition to convenience, Agentic Payments also raises many questions about privacy and financial data security.
When ChatGPT processes payment information, the risk of data leakage or abuse cannot be underestimated. In addition, if there are problems in transactions, for example payment errors or canceled orders, users will need to be clarified that the responsibility belongs to ChatGPT, Razorpay or suppliers such as BigBasket.
Although still in the testing phase, the UPI payment feature via ChatGPT is considered an important step in efforts to bring AI into real e-commerce, promising to reshape the way people interact, shop and pay in the near future.
