The announcement ceremony of establishing the FPT advanced semiconductor chip testing and packaging factory took place on the morning of January 28 in Hanoi. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Truong Gia Binh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Group said that so far, FPT has mainly focused on software, with the belief that our greatest asset is Vietnamese intelligence.
The Party and the State have identified the path for Vietnam to become a rich and strong country as science and technology, including the chip industry. Looking back over the past few decades, countries that "transformed into dragons and tigers" have all risen from the semiconductor industry. Koreans compare chips to rice, because for them chips are as important as food. To make the country rich and strong, there is no other way but to master chip technology" - Mr. Binh emphasized.
According to Mr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT participates in important stages to complete the ecosystem: in addition to training, research, and chip design. “Today we are adding packaging, testing and sales. Basically, the chain is closed. Whoever does the best thing does it, everyone participates in a common ecosystem. We want to coordinate very closely with Viettel: What Viettel produces, FPT will package and test that product. When Vietnamese scientists successfully research sophisticated chips, FPT will continue to undertake the advanced packaging part for Vietnamese technology products” - Mr. Binh emphasized.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Hoang Phuong - Deputy Minister of Science and Technology emphasized that the announcement of the establishment of the Advanced Semiconductor Chip Testing and Packaging Factory not only marks a new step in the development of FPT Group, but also a very noteworthy milestone in the process of forming and completing Vietnam's semiconductor industrial ecosystem.
According to Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong, in the global semiconductor supply chain, in recent years Vietnam has played an increasingly important role in packaging - testing, with the presence of many leading corporations in the world. However, most of the factories today are invested and owned by foreign enterprises.
With FPT investing in a semiconductor chip testing and packaging factory, we have officially completed the last missing piece, gradually closing the semiconductor value chain from design, production to packaging - testing, with Vietnamese businesses being the main participants" - Deputy Minister Phuong emphasized.
In the period 2026-2030, the Ministry of Science and Technology identified the new spirit of Make in Vietnam as: creativity in Vietnam - production in Vietnam - and leading trends. That means we must not only create products for domestic use or replace imported goods, but must create new technologies, new products, and new models that are competitive and lead the regional and global markets.
To realize that spirit, Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong requested FPT Group to promote the role of a leading enterprise, proactively connect with domestic enterprises, create conditions for them to participate in the supply chain, thereby forming a synchronous, sustainable, and internationally competitive Vietnamese semiconductor ecosystem. Second, focus on developing high technology, core technology. Third, create breakthroughs in human resources.
On the side of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong committed to always support, sponsor and accompany FPT Group as well as the technology business community in accordance with the spirit of "public-private partnership for national consensus"; continue to improve the legal corridor, prioritize resources for research - development - training, creating favorable conditions for businesses to feel secure in investing and expanding international cooperation.
