Recently, SCTV announced that it will stop providing the entire K+ channel package from the beginning of 2026 after receiving official documents from VSTV - the unit operating the K+ system. Accordingly, subscribers using 5 K+ channels on SCTV's infrastructure will only be able to maintain the signal until December 31, 2025, before all K+-related services stop broadcasting on all platforms.
K+'s withdrawal also raises big questions about the future of Premier League copyright. For many years, this unit has been a familiar "destination" for fans thanks to holding the exclusive broadcasting rights of the most attractive tournament on the planet.
However, the pressure of high costs and prolonged copyright infringement on the internet have made it increasingly difficult for this unit's business model to be maintained.
However, Vietnamese fans do not need to worry too much. According to Lao Dong, another broadcasting unit has officially owned the rights to broadcast the Premier League in the next phase.
Currently, some major broadcasters in Vietnam such as FPT Play, TV360 or VTVCab are all assessed to have enough financial, technological and experience potential to become new partners of the tournament.
Up to now, the copyright owner has not made an official announcement, but fans expect a strong station to soon replace K+. Continuing official broadcasting not only ensures the quality of images and sound but also contributes to limiting the widespread illegal viewing situation - an issue that has caused many difficulties in the sports copyright market over the years.
Notably, the Premier League's copyright preparation to change ownership after many years associated with an old unit marks an important turning point in the television market in Vietnam.
This shift raises issues about the competitiveness and operational capability of the pay TV sector in the context of increasingly expensive sports rights.
Regarding this change, commentator Quang Tung said that the biggest positive point is that Vietnamese audiences continue to watch the most attractive tournament in Europe with the best quality.
"Since its presence in Vietnam about 30 years ago, the Premier League has appeared on many different platforms, from promotional television to cable, satellite TV and then pay TV. Each transition period comes with clear changes in copyright prices and distribution models," commentator Quang Tung emphasized.
