At the 2025 World Mobile Device Exhibition (MCW), Oppo said it will focus on improving the ability to take photos on smartphones using AI, in an effort to compete with Apple and Samsung.
Darren Chen, AI strategistics planning director at Oppo, said that they chose the imaging path to make a difference in the race to integrate AI into mobile devices.
Chen said that in addition to allowing users to remove unwanted objects from photos, Oppo is also developing AI features that can improve direct image and fix common problems, such as the targeted eyes in group portrait photos.
In parallel, Oppo has also joined hands with Google to use the US technology company's Confidential Computing software, which uses encryption to ensure that user data cannot be viewed by a third party, to provide a new privacy protection solution called Private Computing Cloud.

The goal of this is to ensure that users' sensitive data such as browser searches and private calls cannot be shared with Oppo for the purpose of training the company's AI software. The Chinese phone maker said Private Computing Cloud will be integrated with many features this year, including recording and summarizing calls, searching and creating images.
With these steps, Oppo aims to bring innovative AI technology to nearly 100 million users by the end of 2025, double the target for 2024.
In addition to Oppo, many other Chinese phone companies are also participating in the AI race. Honor has presented its Alpha plan, committed to investing 10 billion USD, marking a transformation from a smartphone manufacturer to a company with a global AI device ecosystem. This plan will go through 3 phases.
The first phase focuses on integrating AI into smartphones, turning phones into smart personal assistants. At MCW 2025, Honor introduced DeepFace, an AI technology that helps detect fake videos (deepfake), helping to protect users from fraudulent calls as well as detect fake news and false information.
In addition, to strengthen customer trust, Honor is also committed to supporting 7-year Android updates and security for the Magic flagship line, starting with the Magic 7 Pro in Europe, on par with the Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S series.
Next, Honor Alpha aims to build an open AI ecosystem where devices such as tablets, smartwatches and home appliances are seamlessly connected, providing a comprehensive smart experience. Finally, their ambition is to connect people with general artificial intelligence (AGI).
Meanwhile, Xiaomi demonstrated its connected intelligence at MWC 2025 with breakthrough products and solutions. Among these, the groundbreaking HyperOS 2 operating system with Xiaomi HyperAI artificial intelligence is a notable highlight.

hyperAI is equipped with AI Writing tools to help users edit and expand content quickly, while real-time voice translation and recognition remove language barriers. hyperAI also expands creativity with AI Art in Mi Canvas, turning sketches into works of art.
Xiaomi is also committed to continuing to cooperate with Google to integrate Google Gemini and Circle to Search, enhancing smart and personalized experiences
