Expected 7 new points in the university admission regulations
The Ministry of Education and Training plans to have 7 new points in the university and college admission regulations in 2025 as follows:
First, remove the regulation on early admission (no more early admission). Schools can directly consider admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training to select candidates with outstanding abilities and talents. The remaining candidates will participate in the general admission round according to the general plan of the ministry.
Second, schools that use high school academic results (exams) for admission must use the results of the entire 12th grade school year (previous years, many schools only used the results of 5 semesters at high school level, not counting the scores of semester II and grade 12).
Third, schools have a plan to convert admission scores to ensure fairness and transparency between different admission methods. Ensure the selection of the most suitable candidates for the desired program and major.
Fourth, remove the requirement for each major and program to have a maximum of 4 admission combinations, no limit on the maximum number of admission combinations for a major or a specific program.
Fifth, the regulation stipulates that the priority points of each candidate do not exceed 10% of the maximum score (this bonus point is after adding priority points for the area and priority for the subject). At the same time, the total scores of candidates do not exceed the maximum score.
Sixth, considering a foreign language certificate can convert the results of the certificate according to the list of high school graduation exam regulations into foreign language scores for admission.
Seventh, training majors in the health and pedagogical sector still apply regulations on the threshold for ensuring input quality as the admission regulations applying for 2024.
Private exams increase attraction for candidates
In 2025, separate exams for results for university admission will continue to increase in both scale and quantity.
With the Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam, in 2025, the exams are expected to take place from March to May 2025 with a scale of 85,000 exams. On February 8, 2025, the center officially opened the registration portal. On March 15, 2025, candidates are expected to take the first round of the exam, and the 6th round will take place on May 17, 2025.
2025 is the fourth year that Hanoi National University of Education has organized a competency assessment exam. The number of schools using the results of this exam for admission has increased to 22 units; including 9 old schools and 13 new schools. Last year, this exam attracted more than 11,500 candidates; an increase of 2.5 times compared to 2023.
However, the new point this year is that the Ministry of Education and Training plans to completely eliminate early admission. In previous years, universities often used the ability assessment test scores and thinking assessment scores for early admission.
Regarding this issue, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of Higher Education - affirmed that the complete elimination of early admission only changes in terms of time, not reducing the chances of admission of candidates.
Training institutions still have autonomy in enrollment. In particular, all admission methods that the training institution wishes to use are still fully guaranteed according to current regulations" - Mr. Dung emphasized.
"Learning transcripts, foreign language certificate results are converted, or the competency assessment exams that students have prepared during their studies are still reserved and valid in the general admission round of the Ministry of Education and Training" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung affirmed.
