According to international experts, this is an important milestone for the smartphone market in Vietnam, in the context of Vietnamese network operators such as Viettel, VNPT, MobiFone deploying the 5G network not long ago.
Accordingly, from April to June 2025, the number of 5G smartphones sold in Vietnam increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, despite market challenges and macroeconomic instability leading to a decrease in the total number of smartphones shipped.
This growth is partly due to telecommunications providers collaborating with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and retailers by providing 5G data at low prices when buying new smartphones. In addition, the average selling price (ASP) of 5G smartphones decreased by 12% compared to the same period last year in the second quarter of 2025, making it easier for consumers to access these devices.
In terms of the market share of 5G smartphones in the second quarter of 2025 in Vietnam, Apple leads with 40%, followed by Samsung (33%), Oppo (11%), Xiaomi (9%), Vivo (3%)...
Apple's lead comes from its continuous discounts and incentives for new and used iPhone models, making it easier for consumers to access these devices. In addition, market instability has little impact on Apple's sales. According to statistics, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is the best-selling 5G phone model in the second quarter of 2025, followed by Oppo's Reno14 F.
More and more original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are catching up with the 5G trend and launching 5G versions for their devices, which were previously lacking in the Vietnamese smartphone market.
Oppo occupies third place in 5G smartphone sales, mainly thanks to the Reno14, an all-5G product line of Oppo in Vietnam. In addition, customers using Viettel SIM with any Reno14 device will be given 30GB of free 5G data.
According to Counterpoint Research's forecast, with the launch of many 5G smartphone models in many different price segments, the application of 5G devices in Vietnam is expected to accelerate further. In 2025, the 5G market share of the total number of smartphones in Vietnam is expected to exceed 50% when network coverage is improved, covering rural areas and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) expanding their 5G product portfolio.
Thanks to that, many consumers across the country will experience the benefits of 5G, promoting the development of the market towards faster and more reliable connection.
