OpenAI is outlining an ambitious roadmap for ChatGPT until 2026, with the goal of turning this chatbot into a comprehensive personal assistant, closely linked to the daily life and work of users.
According to Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, ChatGPT in the future will not only stop at answering questions or giving advice. Instead, this tool will deeply understand the goals of each individual, remember the context over time and proactively support users to complete the most important tasks.
Ms. Simo emphasized: "By 2026, ChatGPT will become a truly superior personal assistant, helping you progress in work and life, not just a chatbot chatting.
ChatGPT towards multi-functional applications
The roadmap announced by Simo further reinforces the notion that ChatGPT is on the path to becoming a multi-functional application, which can replace or integrate many digital tools today.
OpenAI plans to launch more new products based on GPT technology in 2026, and at the same time continue to improve previously launched products such as ChatGPT Pulse and ChatGPT App Store.
One of the major focuses is collaborative features. OpenAI will invest in group messaging and multitasking tools, allowing users to plan, create and solve problems in real time together.
Along with that, ChatGPT will continue to improve in core areas such as writing, learning, healthcare, shopping, consulting, personal finance and life management.
With experience as CEO of Instacart and application leader at Facebook, Fidji Simo is expected to help ChatGPT expand its user base and more effectively exploit the economic value of AI.
Since joining OpenAI, she has been directly responsible for all features and functions related to ChatGPT's revenue.
The challenge of making money from AI
However, the path to commercializing AI is still considered challenging. Many experts believe that the sustainable money-making model from AI is not really clear.
OpenAI has invested more than 1,000 billion USD in data centers and infrastructure, while expecting revenue to come from new shopping tools, consumer devices, online advertising, Sora sales and contracts with the government.
Ms. Simo said: "Smart intelligence is simply not enough. We must turn that ability into usefulness. When we can do this, ChatGPT will become a place people come to every day to complete the most important parts of life and work.
Ambition for corporate customers
Not only focusing on individual consumers, OpenAI also aims to better serve businesses. Simo affirms that GPT-5.2 is currently the most suitable model for professional daily work, and the next versions will be even stronger in programming, creating documents, spreadsheets, slides, organizational memory and process automation.
In the context of increasingly common AI agents, OpenAI wants to build a common platform for deploying and managing automation on a large scale, towards the role of operating system for enterprise AI.
ChatGPT for Work will also be upgraded to better understand the internal context of each organization, from documents to systems and processes.
Finally, developers are still identified as central in the 2026 strategy.
We want to provide them with a reliable automated partner and a platform that they are willing to build for the long term," Fidji Simo emphasized.
