This is a statistic announced by market research company Counterpoint Research after Samsung's new product line was launched. Three phone models in Samsung's Z8 line serve different market segments.
Fold 8 Ultra is a high-end choice, with a camera with a higher configuration. Z Fold 8 focuses more on daily use. The shorter and wider body makes it easier to carry and suitable for reading books, watching videos and browsing the web. Z Flip8 is still a compact model and aimed at young users.
To date, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 version is attracting the most attention in Korea, the US, Europe, Japan, China and Southeast Asia. India is the main exception, where buyers show stronger preference for the Fold 8 Ultra.
In South Korea, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8 and Flip 8 recorded a total of 1.44 million pre-orders during the seven days of sale. This is the highest pre-order number ever for a Galaxy smartphone and nearly 39% higher than the 1.04 million pre-orders of the previous Fold 7 and Flip 7 lines. The standard Fold 8 version accounted for about 70% of the total pre-orders.
According to Samsung data, buyers aged 10 to 30 account for half of the total pre-orders. The number of female buyers in this age group has more than doubled compared to the previous generation, contributing to a record result.
In the US, pre-orders for the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra models were 30% higher than the previous generation. Fold 8 alone accounted for nearly half of pre-orders on all carriers and retailers. In Europe, pre-orders for this product line increased by more than 20% compared to the previous generation, of which Fold 8 accounted for nearly 40% of the total.
Also according to data from Counterpoint Research, in Southeast Asia, Z Fold 8 leads the number of units sold recently in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
In Vietnam, large retail chains such as CellphoneS, Dien may Xanh, Viettel Store... all recorded outstanding increases in orders compared to the previous generation. For example, at the CellphoneS system, the number of customers ordering increased nearly 2 times compared to the previous generation.
According to Counterpoint's forecast, the shipment volume of the Galaxy Z8 Series in the first year is expected to grow by two digits compared to the Galaxy Z7 series and more than 70% compared to the Galaxy Z6 series.
In addition, in September 2026, when Apple launches its first folding phone model, Samsung's products will face fierce competition.
