According to Techcrunch, Google has just announced that it has started implementing Gemini for the Google TV Streamer device, replacing the role of Google Assistant. According to Google, the new AI assistant will help users communicate more naturally when searching for content or performing voice operations.
Gemini on TV can understand complex commands that are subjective to conversation, such as: I like drama but my wife likes comedy, what can we watch together?. Users can also ask What happened at the end of Outlander last season? to summarize the content or search for information about the new hospital drama that everyone is talking about.
Not only for entertainment, Gemini on Google TV can also handle many other information requests similar to the phone version. Users can ask the AI assistant to explain why volcanoes are breaking out to students, or instruct them on how to do manual projects and recipes, all of which are shown via YouTube video.
To use Gemini, users just need to press the microphone button on the remote control. Google said the update will be released in the next few weeks to users aged 18 and over.
This move followed the announcement in September, when Google revealed plans to bring Gemini to Google TV on some TCL devices. It is expected that by the end of this year, Gemini will be available on Hisense TV models (U7, U8, UX 2025) and TCL (QM7K, QM8K, X11K 2025). In addition, this assistant has also appeared on the Walmart Onn 4K Pro streaming device.
According to observers, implementing Gemini for Google TV is the next step in Google's strategy of unifying the AI ecosystem, as it gradually replaces Google Assistant on all devices. Previously, at the CES exhibition earlier this year, Google revealed plans to expand Gemini to a TV platform in 2025.
