Google suffered a defeat today after an advisor to the European Union Supreme Court advised the court to reject an appeal for a record antitrust fine of 4.1 billion euros ($4.7 billion).
After the recommendation, Juliane Kokott - General Lawyer at the European Court of Justice confirmed that the fine will be reduced to 4.125 billion euros in 2022 from 4.34 billion euros previously decided by the EU General Court.
In todays comments, Attorney General Kokott proposed that the Court of Justice reject Googles appeal and uphold the First instance Courts ruling, the Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice said in a press release.
The fine is related to a long-standing antitrust lawsuit involving Google's Android operating system.
In 2018, the European Commission fined Google a record fine for the company's exploitation of Android's dominance on mobile devices to create unfair advantage for its own applications.
Previously, Google called on the court to cancel the EU ban on Android, creating more options for users, not just Google's apps.
The European Union Court of Justice (ECJ) is expected to make a final ruling in the coming months.
