Not only are there articles from all over the web, this platform will soon display social media posts from Instagram, X and YouTube Shorts videos.
In our research, users said they like to see a diverse combination of content in Discover, including videos and social posts, alongside posts, Google said.
These changes will begin to appear in the next few weeks. Notably, from today, users can customize the Discover source according to their preferences. You can follow creators or publishers to see more content from them.
When clicking on the author's name, users can also preview posts and articles before deciding to follow, similar to the new feature on Google Search that allows priority source selection.
This is the next step for Discover, after Google introduced an AI-powered summary tool and the ability to automatically create podcasts based on content sources.
With this series of changes, Google expects Discover to become a multi-medium "stop", where users can read news, update social networks, and watch short videos without leaving the application.
This is also a step that shows that Google wants to compete more directly with social networking platforms in retaining users for longer.
