Vietnam Airlines flight VN30 departing from Frankfurt (Germany) to Ho Chi Minh City at 2:05 p.m. on September 17 had to adjust its route, change direction to land at Istanbul International Airport (Türkiye) to support and rescue passengers with unusual signs of health.
About 1 hour after takeoff, the 57-year-old male passenger, a Vietnamese national, showed signs of unstable health. The flight crew immediately issued a notice requesting urgent medical assistance. Three doctors on board volunteered to provide first aid, but the passengers' condition showed no signs of improvement.
In that situation, the flight captain decided to change the emergency landing direction to Istanbul airport, and informed the ground division to deploy a medical assistance plan.
After the plane landed safely, the passengers were immediately transferred to a local medical facility for emergency care and treatment.
The crew quickly coordinated with authorities and ground service partners at the airport to complete the necessary procedures in Türkiye, adding fuel for flight VN30 to continue its journey to Ho Chi Minh City at 17:32 (local time) on the same day. The flight is expected to land 3 hours and 20 minutes later than expected.
The adjustment of routes creates costs related to fuel, ground clearance and flight schedules. However, the airline affirmed that it always prioritizes ensuring the safety and health of passengers in all situations.
This is one of many cases in which Vietnam Airlines has adjusted its routes to support passengers in need of medical assistance.
Previously, on June 29, 2025, flight VN7569 from Hanoi to Cam Ranh made an emergency landing at Da Nang airport to rescue a passenger.
On May 5, 2025, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt (Germany) also made an emergency landing at Erzurum airport (Türkiye) for the same reason.
Vietnam Airlines notes that passengers should proactively monitor and self-assess their health status before each trip. In case of detecting unusual signs, passengers should consult a doctor promptly and consider taking a flight to ensure safety of health.
