Google Maps allows users to save locations to the list, a useful feature when exploring new cities or finding locations in the familiar area.
However, if there are too many locations saved in the same city, the map may become confused. Google may be testing a adjustment to overcome this problem.
According to 9to5google news site, the new Beta version of Google Maps (25.06.x) is testing the new interface, in which the location icons will be converted into a dot when the user shrinks the map.

This change is expected to make the Google Maps interface more neat, avoiding the map when there are too many locations. However, not all site icons turn into dots. The criteria to decide which icon remains unclear, may be related to the distance or priority factor.
Currently, some beta version users have not seen this change, showing that Google may be testing on a small scale or in stages.
9to5google also recalled that Google had a adjustment test by 2023 but then returned to the old interface. Therefore, it does not exclude this feature will not appear in the official version of Google Maps.
