Google Maps Experiment with Changes to help map less Cluttered

Google Maps is conducting a small experiment, changing the saved location icon to make the map less messy.

Google Maps allows users to save locations to their lists, a useful feature when exploring new cities or finding locations in familiar areas.

However, if there are too many places saved in the same city, the map can become confusing. Google may be testing an adjustment to fix this problem.

According to 9to5 Google news site, the new beta version of Google Maps (25.6.x) is testing a new interface, in which saved location icones will become dots when users downplay the map.

This change is expected to help the Google Maps interface become more neat, avoiding covering up maps when there are too many saved locations. However, not all location symbols have turned into points. The criteria for deciding which symbol to keep is still unclear, possibly related to distance or priority factors.

Currently, some users of the beta version have not seen this change, suggesting that Google may be testing it on a small scale or in stages.

9to5 Google also reiterated that Google had tested this adjustment in 2023 but then returned to the old interface. Therefore, it is not ruled out that this feature will not appear in the official version of Google Maps.
