Google has just officially launched the Google Meet online conferencing service on the Apple CarPlay platform, expanding workability for users right during travel.
With the new update, iPhone users can access Google Meet directly from the car's control screen, creating a seamless connection between mobile devices and cars. This allows frequent traveling experts to maintain contact and attend meetings without stopping.
According to Google, the application will display a list of upcoming meetings right on the main interface. Users only need one touch to attend the meeting.
However, to ensure driving safety, Google Meet on CarPlay only supports audio meetings, does not display videos. Some familiar features such as creating new meetings, raising hands, Q&A or surveys are also not available.
Even for the host, options such as accepting or refusing participants do not appear on the car screen. These limitations are aimed at minimizing distractions for vehicle operators.
The appearance of Google Meet on CarPlay took place just days after OpenAI brought the ChatGPT chatbot to this platform, showing that the trend of turning cars into mobile workspaces is becoming increasingly clear.
Google also revealed that it is planning to put Meet on Android Auto, although the specific time has not been announced.
Currently, Google Meet on CarPlay will be automatically available to users who have installed the application on iPhone. To use it, users only need to connect their phone to cars that support CarPlay.
This feature is provided to Google Workspace customers, individual registrants as well as regular Google accounts. However, Google notes that it may take several days for the application to fully display on the car dashboard.
With this step, Google continues to expand its ecosystem, while meeting the need for flexible work in the context of users moving more and more.
However, safety is still put first when important features are streamlined to suit the driving environment.
