In 2024, Google deployed NotebookLM to more than 200 countries and territories. In particular, the audio audio overviews feature of NotebookLM has immediately created a good effect for users thanks to its ability to turn user document resources into engaging conversations like podcasts.
Now, with the Gemini model's original sound support, more and more people can use the feature in their original language, from Afrikaans, Chinese to Turkish to Vietnamese.
This feature is only in the initial stage, we plan to continue building and perfecting it based on user feedback, Google shared.
The audio Overviews feature will provide information in the preferred installed language in the user's account. This update comes with a new "Exit Language" option in NotebookLM settings; and audio Overviews will output information in the language you choose. You can change the language of audio and answers at any time to create multilingual content or create learning materials in other languages when needed.
For example, a teacher prepared a lecture about the Amazon forest to share with students through documents in many different languages such as Portuguese documentaries, Spanish research papers and English research reports.
Students can download these documents to their NotebookLM and create summaries of important information with audio format in any language. This ability removes language barriers and makes information more accessible to everyone.
