On May 3, 2025, answering a reporter's question asking to express Vietnam's reaction to the activities of China and the Philippines in the Hoai An, Tri Le and Cai Vung stone areas of Truong Sa archipelago of Vietnam, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang emphasized:
As has been repeatedly affirmed, Vietnam has sufficient legal basis and historical evidence to affirm Vietnam's sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago in accordance with international law as well as sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction over the sea areas established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The fact that the parties involved in the entity of Vietnam's sovereignty without the permission of Vietnam is a violation of Vietnam's sovereignty, complicated the situation, contrary to the declaration of the behavior of the parties in the South China Sea (DOC), as well as the efforts of countries in negotiating the Code of Conduct of the parties in the South China Sea (COC) today.
Vietnam requests relevant parties to respect Vietnam's sovereignty over Truong Sa archipelago, do not take actions to complicate the situation, comply with international law, seriously implement the DOC, and contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea.
At the same time, Vietnam also pledged to be ready with relevant parties to resolve disputes over territorial sovereignty in the East Sea, including the Truong Sa archipelago, by peaceful means.
Vietnam has coordinated and issued an official dispatch against relevant countries for activities violating Vietnam's sovereignty over Hoai An stone and other related entities of Truong Sa".
