Google confirmed it is handling a Gmail technical problem after many users reflected that the incoming mailbox was seriously disrupted. Automatic filters are not working as normal and spam warnings appear densely.
Many users said that Gmail no longer effectively filters advertising emails and untimely notifications, causing the main mailbox to be "soaked" with spam. Some accounts also have notifications that emails have not been scanned for spam, raising safety concerns.
On social networks and the DownDetector incident tracking platform, users also reflected slow email receiving, affecting two-layer authentication logins.
A Google representative said "it is actively working to fix the problem", and recommended that users comply with standard safety measures when interacting with emails from unidentified senders.
In the context of increasingly sophisticated forms of email scams, Gmail temporarily not scanning spam or densely attaching warnings also makes users confused and difficult to distinguish which is a safe email.
This poses an increasingly high requirement for large technology platforms like Google to ensure stability, transparency and safety for core services, especially when minor technical problems can also cause widespread impacts.
