According to the Russian news agency, on January 24, the Belgorod Regional Crisis Response Center issued an emergency notice on the security situation in the area. This agency confirmed that the locality had just become the target of an unprecedentedly large-scale shelling.
In the official report, a representative of the Crisis Response Center said: "The largest-scale shelling targeted Belgorod. According to preliminary data as of now, fortunately no casualties have been recorded.
However, the attack caused significant material damage, especially to essential infrastructure. The report confirmed that many energy facilities in the city were hit by bullets and damaged. Immediately after the incident occurred, local authorities immediately activated emergency response plans. Technical maintenance teams and rescue forces were dispatched to the scene to overcome the incident and ensure the safety of the power grid.

Regarding the type of weapons used in this attack, the Governor of Belgorod region - Mr. Vyacheslav Gladkov - made initial assessments.
Based on the traces at the scene, Mr. Gladkov believes that the attack was likely carried out by a high-mobility multiple launch rocket system (HIMARS). This is a modern type of equipment that usually causes great impact and high accuracy.
Besides damage to industrial infrastructure, residential areas were also affected. The Crisis Response Center recorded that the attack caused a fire at several locations. In Tavrovo village in Belgorodsky district, debris from artillery shells fell and destroyed the roofs of two houses.
Currently, Russian functional forces are still blockading the scene to continue collecting information, reviewing damage and conducting detailed investigations into the scale as well as the consequences of this record attack.
