At Apple's WWDC event, iOS 16 was released with many new features. One of them is the feature that allows users to transfer eSIM between iPhones via Bluetooth while setting up a mobile service.
eSIM is a digital SIM that allows users to activate mobile packages from service providers without having to use a physical nano-SIM card. These SIMs are manufactured by welding directly onto the device's circuit board.
According to Macrumors, to switch to eSIM, you first go to Settings on an iPhone that has updated to iOS 16. Then select "Sett up eSIM" and the screen will display the option to move eSIM and the phone number connected from another iPhone via Bluetooth.
Apple also notes that to make eSIM transfers via Bluetooth, you must make sure the iPhone you want to convert to is close and has a lock, Bluetooth turned on, and both iPhones must run iOS 16.
Currently, this new feature is available in many countries such as the US and UK. However, users can only successfully connect to eSIM via Bluetooth when supported by network operators. The reason is that iOS 16 is still in the testing phase, so many network operators have not supported this feature.
Apple continues to offer traditional eSIM setting options by scanning the QR code provided by the network. Apple also said that iOS 16 will be officially released in the fall. At that time, all users can use this new eSIM transfer feature.
In 2018, Apple began equipping eSIM for the iPhone XS and subsequent iPhone models, in which the iPhone 13 series all support dual eSIM.
