One of the major topics for Apple software this year is unification, as demonstrated through the new Liquid Glass design and synchronization of features across multiple platforms.
In particular, the Music app on iOS 26 has just added a notable feature that was previously only available on Macs: creating a playlist file.
The Music app has a long history of complications as the Mac feature is different from the iPhone and iPad. The reason is that the Mac version, which was iTunes, was red Designed and renamed, retaining many old functions that never appeared on iOS. A typical example is creating a playlist.
On Macs, users can arrange playlists in folders and they will be synchronized to other devices, but cannot create or edit them on iPhone or iPad.
Now, this limitation has been removed. With iOS and iPadOS 26, users can directly create a playlist and move playlists between folders right on their mobile device.
This is a surprising move for many, as Apple has been seemingly ignoring the feature on iOS for years, causing many to worry that it could disappear completely.
The addition on iPhone and iPad not only makes music library management more convenient, but also shows Apple's efforts to bring Apple platforms to the same unified experience.
