Apple has just announced that it has reached a new agreement with the Arm chip design company, which will last until 2040.
Although the statement did not disclose specific details about the deal, it has attracted great attention in the technology industry, especially as many popular Apple products such as iPhone, Mac, iPad, and Apple Watch rely on arm's chip design technology.
In the announcement, Arm said, "We have signed a new long-term agreement with Apple until 2040, continuing our long-standing partnership with Apple and Apple's access to Arm architecture."
This shows that Apple is committed to continuing to use Arm technology as a platform for their products in the long term.
What is Chip Arm?
ARM ( Advance RISC machine) is a micr processor architecture created and exclusively owned by Arms Holdings headquartered in the UK. Arms Holding has both developed and licensed its chip architecture to other companies such as Qualcomm, Samsung or Apple.
These third parties can improve or change the chip design based on arm's processor architecture and also monopolize these changes, which is also why, despite using the same architecture, each company produces such different chip performances.
The biggest difference between ARM chips and x86 chips (of Intel) on regular computers is that ARM uses a much simplerinstruction set. The simpler the command, the faster the chip can process many commands in a shorter period of time.
ARM will process each command and will operate on the principle of minimalist, optimizing the way information is processed. In addition, it also has a simpler hardware structure, so the production cost of ARM will be cheaper.
The x86 uses more complex commands and can process multiple commands at the same time, but this will lead to the x86 chip running very expensive and not being optimized.
Arm is being sought after
Its not just Apple that has shown interest in Arm. In his document, Arm revealed that some big names in the technology industry such as AMD, Google, Intel, Nvidia, Samsung and TSMC have all "expressed interest" in buying a "total" of $735 million in arm shares.
Nvidia has also previously wanted to buy Arm from parent company softbank. The deal was announced in 2020 but called off in 2022 due to essential legal challenges, as it faces close scrutiny from regulators in the UK, EU and US.
This has put Arm at the center of the world's leading technology companies. With a new deal that runs until 2040, Apple is ensuring that it will continue to have the right to use Arm technology for its products in the long term, maintaining innovation and high performance in their chip design.
