Meta has just completed the acquisition of Limitless, a technology startup specializing in developing wearable devices capable of recording entire conversations and creating summaries using AI.
The information was directly confirmed by Limitless CEO Dan Siroker in an official post on the company's blog.
Although not disclosing the transaction value, Siroker said the merger was a natural step as both sides shared the vision of bringing personal super intelligence to global users.
Limitless was founded 5 years ago and has emerged thanks to a necklacing wearable that can record everything you hear and say.
The Commercial version launched in 2024 for $99 allows users to record meetings, daily conversations, and automatically create summaries, support storage or re-analyze interactions.
It is this extended storage capability that has helped Limitless attract attention in the context of wearable AI devices becoming a new hardware trend.
For Meta, the deal reflects a strategy of focusing more on smart hardware, a field that Mark Zuckerberg is determined to inherit smartphones in the future.
After Metaverse's failure, Meta strongly shifted to AI-enabled devices, in which the Ray-Ban AI glasses are a clear example.
This product allows voice commands, photos, video recordings and real-time lookup support through an integrated AI assistant, creating a surprising attraction in the market.
The success of Ray- Ban glasses has prompted Meta to bet more on AI hardware. The company has recently recruited two leading designers from Apple, including Alan Dye, who is behind many iconic products to prepare for the next generation of AI-powered devices.
Limitless is expected to play a key role in this expansion, providing core technology for real-time conversation storage and summarization.
However, Meta is not the only unit racing in the AI-powered device segment. The market is witnessing the participation of a series of startups such as Friend, Plaud, bee... In which, bee was bought by Amazon earlier this year, further consolidating the belief that AI-powered devices will be a key competitive front for technology corporations in the next decade.
Meta's acquisition of Limitless is therefore not only an expansion of its hardware portfolio but also a strategic move to take the lead in the wave of personalized AI.
As large companies continue to accelerate, the future of the AI-powered device market promises to enter a more fierce competitive period than ever.
