Meta has just announced that it has signed commercial AI data agreements with many major publishers to provide global news, entertainment and real-time hot updates to Meta AI, the group's artificial intelligence chatbot.
This cooperation allows Meta AI to display information with direct links to articles from press agencies when users ask questions related to news.
According to Meta, this new mechanism helps users explore information more promptly and expands the ability to reach readers for participating press units.
Links attached to AI answers will take users directly to the publisher's website to read the entire content.
The current list of partners includes CNN, Fox News, Fox Sports, Le Monde Group, People Inc., The Daily Caller, The Washington Examiner and USA Today. Meta said it will continue to expand cooperation with other units in the coming time.
Notably, this decision comes in the context of Meta's reduction in its dependence on news content.
In 2024, the company officially closed the " news" section on Facebook. Meta also stopped paying publishers in 2022.
This return to financial support is considered a strategic adjustment to increase Meta AI's ability to access information in real time.
In the blog announcement, Meta emphasized: We are committed to making Meta AI respond faster, more accurately and more balanced. Integrating multiple news sources helps improve reliability and diversify views in AI's responses."
This move comes as Meta is looking to strengthen its position in the AI race amid increasingly fierce competition.
Earlier this year, the launch of Llama 4 caused a lot of controversy when it received negative feedback about its quality. The addition of real-time news is considered a direction to increase Meta AI's attractiveness to global users.
Meta AI is now present in more than 200 countries and is integrated on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and independent apps.
