Vietnam calls on Thailand and Cambodia to restrain themselves and not use force

Vietnam called on Thailand and Cambodia to be extremely restrained, not to use force, and fully implement the ceasefire agreement.

On December 8, answering a reporter's question asking to know Vietnam's reaction to the tense developments that broke out between Cambodia and Thailand in the border area of the two countries, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang stated:

Vietnam expressed deep concern about the current tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.

As a neighbor and a member of ASEAN, Vietnam calls on both sides to exercise full restraint, not use force, fully implement the ceasefire agreement, continue dialogue, resolve peacefully and adequately disagreements on the basis of the fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation Treaty in Southeast Asia (TAC) and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world".

"Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to promoting dialogue and implementing a ceasefire agreement between the two countries to soon restore peace and cooperation on the border in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the long-term interests of both sides and the region" - Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized.
