AI Anthropic company has just integrated voice mode into the Claude Code programming tool, marking a new step in its ambition to automate software development processes.
According to engineer Thariq Shihipar of Anthropic, this feature is being gradually deployed and is currently available to about 5% of users. The expansion plan will take place in the next few weeks.
With the new mode, programmers can interact with Claude Code entirely by voice, instead of manually typing commands.
To activate, users just need to enter the command "/voice", then say the request. For example, a command in programming such as "refactor authentication middleware" will be received and executed by the system.
Anthropic's goal is to help developers operate faster, especially in situations where multitasking is needed or when it is inconvenient to use the keyboard.
It is not yet clear what the technical limitations of this feature are, including the ability to recognize in noisy environments, limiting the duration of commands or the complexity of processable tasks.
Anthropic has also not confirmed whether they cooperate with third-party voice providers such as ElevenLabs, although information about the negotiations had previously appeared.
Before Claude Code, Anthropic introduced voice mode into the Claude chatbot from May last year, allowing users to perform normal tasks using natural conversations. Expansion to a programming environment shows that the company is promoting a multi-mode AI strategy.
The AI programming assistant market is currently fiercely competitive, with Microsoft's GitHub Copilot, along with tools from Google and OpenAI.
However, Claude Code is considered one of the fastest growing platforms. In February, Anthropic said that the annual revenue of this product exceeded 2.5 billion USD, more than double compared to the beginning of 2026, while the number of active users weekly also doubled since the first month of the year.
Along with that, the mobile application Claude once broke through the US App Store charts after the company refused to allow the use of its AI for domestic surveillance or automation weapons, even surpassing ChatGPT.
With the new voice mode, Anthropic continues to consolidate its position in the AI race for developers, heading towards a future where writing and editing code can take place with just words.
