In mid -July, Mr. Le Minh Anh (the name of the character has been changed, currently living in Cau Giay, Hanoi) fires when receiving a strange link from anonymous account. When accessing, he was startled to realize the video of his husband and wife in the living room with the angle of filming from the camera mounted on the corner of the ceiling.
At first, I thought someone had graffitied to scam me. But the more you look at it, the clearer you get. The interface, interior, and even the voice in the video are 100% matched. I immediately pulled out the entire camera system in the house, Minh Anh recounted.
Not only this case, according to Lao Dong reporters, many closed groups on messaging platforms are publicly offering "a complete set of sensitive clips from home cameras", with prices ranging from a few hundred thousand to a few million VND depending on the time and privacy level. Some groups also provide direct access to active cameras as a "VIP package".
Sharing with Lao Dong, Mr. Ngo Minh Hieu (Hieu PC) - cybersecurity expert, Director of the Chong Lua Dao project - warned that the home surveillance camera system has many potential risks related to data security and privacy violations. To minimize risks, users need to regularly change access passwords, install appropriate security mode and absolutely not use the default password from the manufacturer.

In addition, according to Mr. Hieu, in sensitive spaces such as bedrooms, bathrooms, etc., users should turn off the camera power when not necessary, or use dark objects to temporarily disable the recording eyes to protect the privacy of themselves and their loved ones.
Lawyer Nguyen Doan - Hanoi Bar Association - said that according to Clause 30, Article 1 of Decree 14/2022/ND-CP, the illegal purchase and sale and dissemination of data collected from security cameras can be subject to an administrative fine of 40-60 million VND. At the same time, all illegally collected information was forced to be destroyed.
In more serious cases, the act of penetrating electronic devices to extract private data can also be prosecuted under Article 289 of the Penal Code. The fine for this crime ranges from 50-300 million VND or imprisonment from 1-2 years.
However, lawyer Nguyen Doan also frankly acknowledged: The process of investigating and verifying the identity of the violator often faces many obstacles because the subject uses identity conceal tools in the online environment. Therefore, the fundamental solution is still to equip users with knowledge and awareness to self-protect personal data.
