Worried when hearing the news that 100 million Zalo accounts were hacked

Faced with the news that the data of 100 million Zalo users was hacked, many Vietnamese users expressed concern and doubt.

Data of hundreds of millions of users leaked

According to Cyber Press, a hacker nicknamed "binanhang123" on the hacker forum recently claimed to have attacked and exploited the data of 100 million Zalo users in Vietnam. This person has made the information public on social networks, raising concerns about the security capabilities of one of the most popular messaging platforms in Vietnam.

In a post on November 6, the account "binanhang123" said that many sensitive data had been leaked, including phone numbers, usernames, and display names on Zalo. To prove it, the hacker posted a partially obscured copy of the data so that other members of the forum could check it.

The accuracy of this data remains a question mark as Zalo has not commented to verify or deny the information, according to Cyber Press. In addition, it is currently unclear whether the leaked information is new or old data.

Users are excited and skeptical

Faced with the news that Zalo's personal data was leaked, many users expressed doubts and concerns. Ms. Phuong Thao - manager of a coffee shop in Long Bien district (Hanoi) - said that Zalo is an important application for her to contact and communicate with her family and at work. Many important documents and invoices of the coffee shop she manages are also sent via Zalo. Therefore, if user data is leaked, this could have a significant impact on the personal lives as well as the businesses of many people.

One of the reasons why Vietnamese users are easily affected when information on Zalo is stolen is because this is an application that is very popular with Vietnamese people. Not only individuals, many agencies and companies also use Zalo groups for employees to exchange and send information to each other.

"I even send my ID card or bank card images to my relatives via Zalo. If this data is leaked, my life will be greatly affected," Ms. Thao shared.
