Accordingly, Microsoft will close Mail and Calendar in Windows 11, which means users will not be able to send/receive emails or manage calendars using these applications after December 31.
Users will be guided to switch to the Outlook web app. It seems Microsoft is aiming to bring all email and calendar features into a single app on all Windows devices.
If users still want to use these two applications after the above deadline, they can go to Outlook > Settings > General > About Outlook to turn off the New Outlook setting.
However, this will be a “read-only” mode, meaning they will be able to view emails, drafts, contacts, and other information in Mail and Calendar. When they need to send/receive emails, they will be redirected to Outlook.
As such, users of the two apps will need to switch to the new Outlook or a third-party app starting January 1, 2025. To export emails, events, and contacts from Mail and Calendar to Outlook, use the Export feature in the two apps.
Outlook doesn't currently support working offline. Microsoft will add this in the coming weeks.
