Apple launches "Location Sharing" feature on AirTags

Apple has just announced a new feature on iOS 18.2, allowing users to share the location of lost AirTags via a link, supported by many airlines.

In the latest beta version of iOS 18.2, Apple has upgraded the Find My app, allowing users to create a link to share the location of AirTag or Find My-supported accessories when lost.

This link can then be sent to someone else to help locate the item. The recipient simply opens the link to see the item’s location on an interactive map, automatically updated with the latest timestamp.

Notably, Apple has partnered with more than 15 major airlines to support this feature in the process of locating lost or delayed luggage.

Airlines such as Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss Airlines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic and Vueling will soon adopt Find My to help customers find their luggage.

Apple added that more airlines will join the system in the coming months. Apple has worked closely with airline partners to create a system that ensures the safety and security of the "Item Location Sharing" feature.

Access to each link will be limited to a select number of people, and recipients will need to authenticate via their Apple account or partner email address to view the information. iOS 18.2 is now available to developers and public testers, with a public release expected in December.
