The global shortage of memory chips stems from the high demand of AI (artificial intelligence) companies that has affected Apple's specialized computer lines such as Mac mini and Mac Studio. But currently, the situation has affected MacBook Air, one of Apple's most sought-after lines.
According to sources from Bloomberg, anyone who wants to buy a MacBook Air from Apple's website will have to wait until the second half of August - or for certain configurations, until September 2026.
Apple is trying to solve the problem by raising prices and importing memory from Chinese suppliers. Previously, the company had postponed the latest back-to-school promotion from June 2026. Even, the company's marketing strategy focused more on the basic MacBook Pro model.
Previously, according to information from market research company Counterpoint Research, Apple's revenue reached 109 billion USD in the second quarter of 2026, up 16% compared to the same period last year. In which, Mac line revenue exceeded 10 billion USD, up 29%.
Expert David Naranjo commented that the sales of the Mac line are superior to the personal computer market in general, which is facing memory inflation and low consumer demand.
He commented: "MacBook Neo has expanded Apple's market by offering more attractive and affordable prices for students, first-time Mac buyers, and consumers who may have chosen personal computers running Windows.
Although the lower price of the MacBook Neo has reduced the average selling price (ASP), the increased number of products, along with the stable demand for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, has boosted strong revenue growth and further expanded Apple's existing user base.
In the Vietnamese market, MacBook Air is one of the product lines most sought after by parents, students, and students in the 2026 school opening season.
Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hong - E-commerce Director of 24hStore retail system said: "The demand for learning and choosing MacBook Air in the period of late July and early August 2026 at the system increased by about 18% compared to the same period last month.
The main motivation comes from the new school year shopping season, the need to equip equipment for studying and working, and the increasing interest in thin and light MacBook models with 16GB of RAM.
