Previously, this type of account was only available in the US, UK, Australia and Canada. The account has integrated security measures and parental controls, first launched on Instagram last fall.
Youth Account was introduced shortly after Meta and many other popular social networks were questioned by US lawmakers for not doing enough to protect teenagers on their platforms.
With the expansion to Facebook and Messenger, teens will be automatically included in an experience designed to limit inappropriate content and prevent unwanted contact. Users under 16 years old need parental permission to change any settings.
Additionally, teens can only receive text messages from people they follow or have texted before. Only friends can watch and answer the story. Lagification, name-mending, and commenting are also limited to friends or followers.
