Microsoft to stop supporting Windows 11 SE

Windows 11 SE - a product that competes directly with ChromeOS in the education sector - will be officially stopped by Microsoft from October 2026.

This information was discovered in a recently updated support document. Accordingly, Microsoft will stop providing software updates, technical assistance, and security patches for Windows 11 SE from that time.

Launched in 2021, Windows 11 SE is designed to be simple, light and aimed at students. This is an effort by Microsoft to compete with Chromebook and ChromeOS - a popular device line in the global education environment. This operating system is also pre-implemented on the Surface Laptop SE model launched at the same time.

However, after 5 years of operation, Windows 11 SE has not met expectations. Although available on some other low-cost devices, this operating system has never attracted a large number of users like ChromeOS.

Although Windows 11 SE-powered devices can continue to work after October 2026, Microsoft recommends that users switch to devices using other Windows 11 versions to ensure updates and security.
