Microsoft has just announced a plan to train 2 million teachers at about 200,000 educational institutions across India (the most populous country in the world) by 2030, in order to promote the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching.
The program is part of the "Microsoft Elevate for Educators in India" initiative, aimed at improving digital skills for teachers and building smart classroom models.
Speaking at CM SHRI school (an advanced standard public school model developed by local authorities) in Delhi, Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith said that the long-term goal of the program is to reach teachers nationwide, starting from the capital New Delhi.
According to the plan, the initiative will be implemented at 75 CM SHRI schools in Delhi, of which the first phase has been implemented at 10 schools in Rohini and Dwarka areas, where teachers are trained to use the company's AI Copilot tool.
Many teachers participating in the program said that AI has been significantly supported in teaching work.
Local authorities also expect the program to contribute to modernizing education. Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood emphasized the goal of building smart classrooms supported by artificial intelligence, thereby improving the quality of teaching and learning.
According to Microsoft, the initiative is being implemented in cooperation with many major educational institutions in India and the National Council for Vocational Education and Training. This coordination aims to ensure that the training content is consistent with the national education program and can be expanded rapidly.
Previously, the Indian Ministry of Education announced that AI will be included in the official curriculum from grade 3 onwards in the 2026-2027 school year. This is considered a strategic step to prepare students with necessary skills in the digital age, while creating motivation for teachers to improve their technological capacity.
With the goal of training millions of teachers in the next few years, Microsoft's initiative is expected to contribute to shaping the future of Indian education, where AI is not only a supporting tool but also becomes a platform for new learning methods.
