Biz Stone (Twitter co-founder) and Evan Sharp (Pinterest co-founder) have founded West Co - a new social networking startup. According to information compiled by the Financial Times from legal documents and shares of the two founders, West Co raised 29 million USD in the initial funding round, led by Spark Capital.
West Co has launched a trial version, only for invited people, of the first application named Tangle since November. Evan Sharp - currently the company's CEO, said that the idea for launching the application originated from a big question: could it create a product that helps reduce the damage that social networks have caused to human minds and emotions for more than a decade?
In the original version, Tangle did not focus on likes or controversial content. The application asks users a simple question: "What is your goal today?". Users can share this goal with friends, thereby encouraging conscious planning, sticking to daily life and recognizing deeper connections in life.
Biz Stone said that Tangle may change significantly before being widely released. According to him, the current product is just the first test step for a different approach to social networks, where the focus is not on attracting attention at all costs, but on helping users use technology healthier.
