On the morning of November 27 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Law Newspaper organized a seminar on “Information Security in the Digital Age”. Currently, cyber security incidents, from organized attacks to loopholes in information management, are posing serious risks not only to businesses or individuals, but also to government agencies, and even national security.
Therefore, building effective solutions to protect information and data is not only an urgent task but also a common responsibility of the whole society.
Sharing at the seminar, Lieutenant Colonel Le Minh Hai (Deputy Head of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police) emphasized the very sophisticated forms of online fraud, causing huge losses.
Mr. Hai cited the case of a very young woman who wanted to find a friend on the Internet. Unfortunately, this girl was tricked by her online boyfriend into investing in finance and virtual currency, losing 70 billion VND in just 3 months.
According to Mr. Hai, such cases are not rare. He pointed out that nowadays, cyber criminals carry out very sophisticated frauds, preying on “greed” and material benefits to lure many people. In addition to women, the ignorant, even the knowledgeable, those working in technology also become victims.
According to Mr. Hai, the victims of fraud also come from people with unhealthy lifestyles, actively searching for and participating in social evils on the internet; accessing obscene content, gambling, etc.
Sharing at the seminar, Mr. Truong Duc Luong (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Cyber Security Joint Stock Company) said that cyber attacks always exist and are increasing with the development of information technology applications and online trends.
According to statistics, in the third quarter of 2024, more than 5 million threats were detected by Kaspersky in Vietnam; 18.7% of Vietnamese Internet users were the target of cyber attacks. Mr. Luong proposed a number of orientations on protecting information technology systems such as building a cultural foundation to ensure information security; Establishing policies, regulations and regular compliance training; Regularly assessing security levels for timely improvements...
Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh - Director of the Institute of Business Research - Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics emphasized that in the future, global cybersecurity will continue to face increasingly greater challenges, especially when 5G and IoT technology are widely deployed, opening up new security vulnerabilities.
To cope, countries need to increase investment in advanced security technology, raise public awareness and promote international cooperation to build a safe and sustainable cyberspace.
