Recently, OpenAI announced surprising growth figures on the application of Codex (software supporting artificial intelligence programming) in India, showing a strong digital transformation wave taking place from the technology world to the mass industries.
According to data shared by OpenAI on the sidelines of Mumbai Tech Week 2026 recently held in India, the number of Codex users active weekly in this country has increased 27 times.
At the same time, the number of daily interactions also recorded an increase of more than 20 times. These impressive results have put India in the top 5 countries in the world in terms of Codex usage, and also in the top 10 markets with the highest user interaction rate on the platform.
A special point in this wave is the large change in users. Originally designed specifically for software engineers, Codex has now broken out of programming boundaries.
Representatives of OpenAI said that more than 1/4 of requests from India come from tasks unrelated to code writing. Instead, founders, researchers, students and business operations groups are using this tool to draft documents, synthesize information, automate research and streamline workflows.
However, India's core strength in the technology sector is still firmly maintained. The OpenAI Signals report shows that the demand for using Codex for programming here is three times higher than the global average.
This reflects an extremely dynamic and responsive developer ecosystem with new technologies. To fully exploit this potential, OpenAI has conducted strategic cooperation with leading Indian corporations such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Razorpay to optimize technical processes and corporate governance.
The explosion of Codex in India is clear evidence that AI is no longer a privilege of technology experts, but has become a powerful assistant to help all industries accelerate productivity and realize ideas.
