OpenAI releases GPT-4.1 to all paying users

OpenAI has just officially launched GPT-4.1 - the latest version in its AI model line for all paying users.

The deployment begins today with the ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Team packages. Meanwhile, Enterprise and Edu package users will have to wait a few more weeks to access.

Users can select GPT-4.1 in ChatGPT's model selector when this feature is available.

GPT-4.1 was previously released to developers, bringing many improvements in speed and efficiency. The speed of OpenAI's model upgrades is getting faster and faster, making the version numbering system more complex.

Notably, the company also introduced GPT-4.1 mini - a compact version to replace the current GPT-4o mini. All users, including free, will be upgraded to GPT-4.1 mini. This will be the default model for free users when they have reached the GPT-4o usage limit.

With the current development momentum, GPT-4.1 is expected to further expand the application of AI in learning, working and content creation. OpenAI's offering of mini versions to both free users also shows a more powerful AI popularization strategy, while creating a premise to attract users to upgrade when they need higher performance.

In the context of increasingly fierce competition between technology companies such as Google, Anthropic or Meta, the launch speed and continuous improvement of new GPT versions play a key role in helping OpenAI maintain its leading position in the AI race.

Experts say that if it continues to improve in response speed, reasoning capabilities and context understanding, GPT-4.1 could become an important stepping stone before OpenAI introduces GPT-5 models in the near future.
