Copilot - Microsoft's artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, is having difficulty catching up with its popularity rival. According to Newcomer's technology newsletter, the number of Copilot users has remained around 20 million per week for the past year, while OpenAI's ChatGPT has reached 400 million weekly users.
This information was shared by Ms. Amy Hood - Microsoft's CFO at the annual leadership meeting in March this year, raising concerns about the future of AI that Microsoft is pursuing.
Although Copilot is deeply integrated into Windows 11, Microsoft 365 application packages, and Edge browsers, the number of users has not increased significantly.
To refresh Copilot and reduce dependence on OpenAI, Microsoft has acquired Mustafa Suleyman's team from Inflection AI. Under Suleyman's leadership, Copilot has been redesigned, adding a number of new features such as the ability to perform user-replacement actions on some websites. However, the product has not yet created a clear attraction for the Windows user community.
Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI to access advanced AI models to compete with Google. However, the early launch of ChatGPT quickly took the minds of users, making it difficult for Copilot to find a breakthrough to lure them out of their opponents.
