Apple has long maintained a product development strategy according to a multi-year roadmap. Not only devices like iPhone and Mac, the company's operating system updates have also been researched, built and tested very early.
In Bloomberg's Power On bulletin, technology journalist Mark Gurman said that Apple has officially started the development process of operating system updates for 2027. Accordingly, the software engineering teams are currently in the stage of building individual features, applications and improvements.
However, at this point, Apple has not yet started integrating all those components into complete operating system versions.
However, with about a year left until introducing these products to developers at WWDC 2027, the company still has a lot of time to complete.
Gurman added that iOS 28 and iPadOS 28 currently have the internal code name "Bell", while macOS 28 is called "Poppy". From these two names, Apple employees have combined them into the nickname "Boppy" to refer to the 2027 operating system generation.
This is not a new naming method at Apple. Previously, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 were codenamed "Rave", while macOS 27 was called "Fizz". When combining these two names, Apple employees created the nickname "Rizz" to refer to the corresponding operating system.
